In one of my visits to a music store, I encountered a beautiful song titled “100%” by Lea Salonga. The lyrics are so powerful! Let me share with you some parts from the song:
100% in everything I do
100% is what keeps me true
100% super beautiful
I can’t do just okay, not even fair
Good isn’t good enough, it’s got to be up there
I don’t care if it takes a little more from me
I’ll always push it, there’s no other way for me
Never stop, there’s no way I can’t be
Be the best me that I can be
Extraordinary, that’s how I want to be
Less than 100 is not enough for me!
I don’t stop at just halfway
What’s life that’s only half lived?
I don’t stop at just okay
I always give all I can give!
In performing, in beauty, in love, in all of the above
Indeed, the prerequisite in unleashing the highest potential of your life is giving 100 percent in everything you do. So many people these days are satisfied with just giving an average performance in work, relationships, and life in general. Why settle for just a passing grade in life when you can give your very best and unleash the highest potential of what God has destined you to be?

I heard about this professor in a major university who was about to give a final examination to his students. This is the most important test of the year. Before he distributed the test papers, he told his students how proud and happy he was of them. The professor emphasized that because they’ve worked so hard, he will offer them a deal. He said that those who want an automatic passing grade of 80% on the exam would only have to raise their hands, and they don’t even have to take the test.
One student raised his hand slowly, followed by other students, until about half of the class opted not to take the test. The professor said they can leave the room and have their free time immediately. The students who took the offer were so happy and felt so relieved.
Meanwhile, the remaining students who opted to take the final exam waited for the test papers to be distributed. The professor, standing in front, encouraged the students left behind. He believes that they are going to do great things in life, he told them. He even stressed that they should continue to always strive to do their best in whatever they will do in life.
The professor then distributed the test papers and told the class to start by reading the instructions. To the students’ surprise, the test paper contains only two sentences: “Congratulations! You just made a score of 100!”
Just like the students who opted not to take the test, people settle for just a passing grade in life, not realizing that God has something better in store. There was an opportunity to rise higher, but they missed it because they chased for the passing grade. Majority of us today settle for just good enough and does not want to push hard or do more in life. Thus, we do not benefit from the blessings God has prepared for us.
In the story, I think the professor decided to give a grade of 100% because the students who decided to remain believe that they can do much more and can have much more. They probably prepared for the examination and aimed to get a perfect score as well. Thus, the professor rewarded them with a grade of 100.
I encourage you today to change your thinking and decide not to settle for something less. Just like what the song says, “What’s life that’s only half lived?” Don’t stop at just okay. Good is not good enough. It’s got to be up there. So give what you can give in your career, relationships, and in life. Getting 100% for the glory of God is worth fighting for.
The first place where we lose our battles is in our mind. If you think you cannot be successful in life, then you will never be. The “passing grade” is easier to do. You may not even need to stretch and give your very best. You don’t even have to leave your comfort zone. However, you will never achieve your destiny if you keep settling just for a passing grade in life.
Begin to release your faith to the fullness of your God-given destiny. Give your 100%, even if you think nothing is happening and no one notices you.
Remember, good is the enemy of best! Stir up that greatness in you. Give your 100%!
“Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31)
